Close to You

As I sit here reminiscing captured days of long ago memories set my mind to ponder visions bring my face a glow.

With a sight of joy remembering mounds of silky silver strands put atop her head so prudent by a pair of wrinkled hands.

In a cozy country kitchen seething smells of ginger bread cookies made for little fingers on a tempting table spread.

Smiling lips, gentle words never ever taking chances, I revisit shimmering eyes always giving soothing glances.

I inhale the scent of roses from her flowered cotton dress, touch the locket grampa gave her resting softly on her breast. Fragile legs that knelt beside me praising god for each new day, reverent hands that touch my heart as she taught me how to pray.

Words to quide and to direct me years of wisdom age can render full with whispers of I love you arms, caressing warm and tender.

Now that precious golden locket rests upon my breast, you see treasured gift to share the love with grandchildren yet to be.
