Awakening
Ben had been a good husband and an a good provider. His wife now gone, he lived with his daughter. The past few years had been hard on him. He had climbed a ladder to prune back a small maple tree. when he suffered a stroke. He fell, broke his hip and was laid up for a time with pneumonia.
But, having faith in God, he did not give in to adversity. He still had his seven children who loved him and saw that his needs were met. Ben's health began to gradually deteriorate soon the active church-going man was confined to a wheel chair. He was then diagnosed with emphysema. The many years of smoking had caught up with him. At the age of seventy seven it was evident he had a serious case of Alzheimer's disease.
His daughter tells the story of how this man, on the night before his death, sang with the Angels. He sang songs, as if let by a choir of Angels. He sang songs he could not have possibly known she exclaims. What is even stranger is that he sang in a strong vibrant voice, full of energy, when even a breath had been a real struggle.
The following day, she noticed his breath was shallow and immediately summoned an ambulance. Before the ambulance arrived Ben died in his daughter's arms. With tears streaming down her face, his daughter will tell you she believes that her father had seen the edge of heaven and sang with the heavenly choir. With praises to the Lord, his children experienced on overwhelming joy and a calming peace with the comfort that their father had gone home to sing with the Angels.
